Wild Garlic, Allium Ursinum
The plant flowers in the spring and then dies down completely by the middle of summer. The leaves can be eaten usually in salads, in fact all the plant is edible.
Beware though, once it gets a hold in your garden, you will never be without it! The walk from Dovedale to Milldale is punctuated by it's strong smell, although if you cook with it the effect is quite mild.
Don't forget - Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981, which covers Britain, it is illegal to uproot any wild plant without permission from the landowner or occupier.
