Thorpe Cloud & Dovedale: 1 Mile Strenuous

Thorpe - Dovedale - Stepping Stones - Lin Dale - Thorpe Cloud

Many family's who visit Dovedale never wander further than the stepping stones.  This short but strenuous walk is for members of the family who have itchy feet and are not content to just picnic by the Dove.

The path up to the summit of Thorpe Cloud starts just beyond the stepping stones near Lin Dale. The path climbs over rocky steps before reaching a more defined path above Lin Dale. As height is gained the views open up north along the River Dove and west over Bunster Hill.

More rocky steps take you to the small summit ridge. The views from here are impressive, to the north St Peter's church at Alstonefield can be seen. To the west the Izaak Walton Hotel and Ilam Hall.

Retrace your steps back down to the stepping stones. The walk in total from the car park takes about one hour.
